What Would You Do: Risk vs. Reward

Hey guys! For todays post I will be explaining a topic that many of you may have never thought about before. Many of you, including me, may ponder what we may do if we are put in certain situations. When my family and I visit places that we have never been before, I find myself wondering how I would escape if a fire started, or were the nearest fire extinguishers are. Some people may see this as a weird thing that firefighters do, but I think that it is good for everyone to prepare themselves for certain situations.

It is a good thing to prepare yourself and make up what you would do in certain situations. What would you do if you see a car on the side of the road engulfed in flames? What would you do if someone tries to rob you? These are some of these situations that you may want to think through and ponder what you would do. These are very drastic examples, but scary situations may also come up on a smaller scale than these.

This leads me to my second point, risk vs. reward. This is something that as training to be a firefighter comes up very often in my classes. Just think of it this way, is what you are trying to save more important than your life or your teams lives? Again back to the example of the car on fire, what if you pull up and see a man inside? Would you go into the fire to save this mans life? In this situation, there are many unknowns such as if the man is alive, or how bad the fire is. You have to determine these questions for yourself, but you don’t want to end up losing your life trying to save the man. Because then we have two people dead, and we have not accomplished anything.

Again this is a very bad situation, but i’m sure that many of you have already thought about what you would do in a situation similar to this. I have said all of this to say, think about what you would do, because if that situation ever comes up, you will have an idea of what to do. Don’t be one of those people who freeze up when they encounter a dangerous situation, be prepared. I hope that you enjoyed this post! The Reason Behind My Career Choice: Why I Want To Be A Firefighter

Hey guys! Todays post is going to be about why I choose to be a firefighter as my future career, and some tips and how you can choose your future career.

When I was younger, I remember hearing heroic stories from my grandpa about when he was a firefighter. I will always remember those stories, but as a young boy I always pondered the question, “Why would these firefighters risk their lives any day to save mine or someone else?” As the 15-year-old Mebane Fire Department explorer, I have now found the answer to this  question. Firefighters all around the world are of a different kind, a kind that would face death everyday to save the lives of you and I, and I want to be apart of this firefighting family.

As I got a little older, my grandpa told me about a program that they had at the fire department he worked at. He said that it let 14-18 year olds explorer the firefighting career first hand. So when I turned 14, I thought that I would ask my local fire department if they had a program such as this. Turns out that they had just started a fire exploring program, and that I could come back for an interview the next week.

Before I knew it, I had been in the Mebane Fire explorers program for more than a year. In the last year I have done more than I thought I would ever do. I have met great firefighters that have helped me so much through my journey of preparing to become a paid firefighter. I have went to wreak scenes, went into fires, and treated a life treating dog bite.

So that is my story, now to some tips that can help you guys choose your future career.

Pick something that you will like: Pick a job that you will enjoy. This will not only make you more excited to go to work everyday, but it will also make you do your job better.

Don’t let people tell you that you will never get the job: I have heard so many times from family members and friends, “There are not many of those jobs, you will never get that job”. Or, “ You have to go to college for so many years, or you have to get so many certifications, you will never make it through”. Don’t let people tell you that you can’t get the job, because if you work hard enough, you can get that job that only 5-9 people have.

Prepare yourself for the job well in advance: If you can, explorer the career that you chose, or start learning things that will help you for this job.

Sunshine Sunday: Psalms 25:5

Hey guys! I apologize for not posting anything in a few days, I hope to now post at least every other day if not more. For todays Sunshine Sunday post, I will be explaining a verse: Psalms 25:5 “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”

This verse is written by David, and he wrote this to be a prayer for guidance and protection. In the first part of the verse he is asking God to lead him into the truth, and for God to teach him. In the middle of the verse David is saying that he believes in God, and he recognizes that God is who brings salvation. Finally in the last part of the verse, it reads, “on thee do I wait all the day.” David is saying that he waits on the Lord all the time. He waits for God to give him the answers to his problems, and goes to him for help.

This is what we can learn from this verse in Psalms. Sometimes God makes us wait on problems that we have, or answers that we may want. He may want us to stay in a valley that we are in, because there is something that we can learn from it. God doesn’t always bring us out of a situation right when we ask him. He also may not answer our prayers right when we pray them either.

But we always need to remember that God always knows best, and we shouldn’t questions any of his decisions. Even if sometimes we may have to stay in a valley for longer that we may like, remember that we can always learn somethings from mistakes or hard times.

Would You Want Someone To Help You?

Hey guys! For todays post I would like to talk about how you can serve others, and some tips that have helped me. A lot of times, I find myself thinking more about myself than serving others, and I am sure that you guys have this problem sometimes also.
So one thing that I was told a while ago about serving others is that you have to ask yourself this; “Would I want someone to help me do this”? Asking myself this when I run across someone who needs help always encourages me to give them a hand.

One thing that you always need to remember also is that you are on this earth to help other people and be a witness for God. So you always need to be on the lookout for some way that you can serve someone.
You can be of help to someone in many different ways, one of these is just giving someone your time. If you see someone setting alone in a corner go and talk to them, by doing this you are helping this person. You don’t even have to go out of your home to be of help to people, you can help your parents and siblings at your own house.

lastly, you want to serve people with the right mindset. Are you helping this person so that you will be noticed, or are you doing it for God? Always remember the real reason you should help people, and that is to glorify God.

How To Step In And Be The Leader

Hey guys! Todays post is about something that is very near and dear to my heart, leadership. In the Civil Air Patrol and Fire Department, leadership is one of the things that is drilled into your head constantly. Even in just your daily life, having good leadership skills is something everyone should practice. In this post, I will share with you some tips that have helped me to become a better leader.

Sometimes you just have to step in and be the leader: Many things can be handled by someone just stepping in a being the leader. One of these situations that I have seen is someone getting injured. Say someone falls out of a tree while you are at the park, you would not believe how many people would just walk away. Be the leader and step in and see if the person needs help.

Treat the people you are leading how you would want to be treated: When you are leading a group of people in doing something or helping someone, treat them as you would want to be treated.

Remember that the needs of the people you are leading go before yours: This is something that really has helped me teachmy cadets in Civil Air Patrol better. When you are a leader, you are going to get tired and want to take breaks, but always remember that the needs of your people are before your own.

I hope that you enjoyed this short post on leadership! If you have any questions or comments please leave them bellow or in the contact section at the top of the page!

Tis The Season To Start Learning Christmas Music

Hey guys! Todays Music Monday post will be about a topic that everyone likes to talk about in October, Christmas music!

You may have started to learn Christmas music if you play an instrument or sing in the choir at your church. Some of us, including me, might think that it is totally wrong to listen to “Frosty the Snowman” or “Jingle Bells” when it is 90 degrees outside. But, now is the time that we have to start learning these new songs, if we want to play or sing them in December.

Yesterday,at choir practise at my church, we starting learning a few new songs that came out just last year. These new songs share a great message of the birth of Jesus, and the real meaning of Christmas. Some people who I know listen to the same Christmas songs every December, or sing and play them at their church. But if you are like me, I get tired of listening to the same songs over and over again.

For this Christmas, if you sing or play an instrument, I encourage you to learn and perform new songs that share the real meaning of Christmas. Look for new songs that just came out this year or last, trust me, people will truly love these songs. If you perform at your church or sings in the choir, ask your music leader if you can try out these new songs.

So for Christmas this year, instead of clicking on your christmas music playlist on Spotify, branch out and play or listen to some new tunes. I hope that you enjoyed this post! If you have any questions or comments please leave them below or in the contact tab at the top of the page. If you have a favorite Christmas song, please share it in the comments section!

Sunshine Sunday: Matthew 7:3-4

Hey guys! Todays Sunshine Sunday post will be about Matthew 7:3-4; “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brothers’s eye, but considerest not the beam in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine own eye; and behold, a beam is in thine own eye?”

This verse is saying that you need to look into your own life before you tell someone else what they are doing wrong.  When you are making the wrong choices in your life, how can you teach someone else to not do these same things? In the first part of this verse it says, “why beholdest thou the mote that is in they brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam in thine own eye?” Jesus is using the example of a “mote”, which is the smallest piece of sawdust there is. He is asking, why are you worried about the small problem in someone elses life, when you have a huge problem in your own life?

The second verse is asking, why would you tell the other person how to fix their small problum, when you still have a large problem in your own life? The illustration that Jesus is giving here shows us that we need to examine the problem in our own life before we go try to help another person with their problems. With Gods help, we need to fix our own problems before we can help someone else that has that same problem. By practicing this, it will equip us to be able to help the other person that is having the same problem that we used to have.
